I started tattooing in late 2001, after a two-year apprenticeship in a Minneapolis tattoo shop. As soon as that apprenticeship was completed I packed a U-haul and moved to New Orleans and got a job in a crazy, leopard print covered, “Street Shop”. Those were some insane days and while I would not want to do them again, I am, kind of, glad I had those experiences. I think I’m stronger…I think.
I worked in that shop for around three years altogether. There was a 10-month period in the middle, where I moved to Toronto and worked at Way Cool Tattoos. The guys at the Way Cool shop were awesome and I miss working and hangin’ with them a lot. It was back in those days of travel and flux that I first started being a “guest artist” at Steady Tattoo and getting to know the folks at the shop.
In late August of 2005, I like a lot of other people in New Orleans, lost my home, the place I worked, and a lot of my personal possessions to hurricane Katrina. Forced to move back home to Minneapolis, the guys at Steady took me in and gave me not only a new place to work but a second home as well. I love it here at Steady, I could not imagine a greater group of people to work. I feel that I have grown, exponentially, both as an artist as well as a person.
